COMMUNITY

The Sumter County Sheriff's Office understands that we are nothing without the Sumter community so we strive to spend as much time as possible with them. Through various events and projects our deputies have the opportunity to build relationships that span far outside the realm of just law enforcement officer and citizen. Whether it's visiting schools, participating in neighborhood enhancement projects, putting on awareness seminars for churches or civic organizations or working with Toys for Tots during the holiday season and being mentors to youth through our very own Boys to Men and Girls to Women conferences, the deputies of the Sumter County Sheriff's Office go above and beyond to forge lasting relationships and help better the Sumter community.

There are many opportunities for our deputies to volunteer time or take on projects that foster relationships and open doors that we may not otherwise have the opportunity for. Some deputies play on local league softball teams while others may coach little league baseball and basketball teams. Several of our deputies organized a gospel choir a few years ago as an opportunity to reach out to various church congregations. We have an Explorer program where teens (14-19) can learn the basics of law enforcement and interact with some of the deputies while also being taught about good citizenship and moral responsibility to their community. Whatever the cause or function, it is all about building a trust and long term personal relationship with the citizens we serve.

If you are interested in having a deputy come and speak to your group, business, church or other organization then choose the Complaint Form link in the upper right corner and choose "Request a deputy to speak or visit". Below are some of the topics that we cover on a regular basis:
